If you followed me at my old blog (The Caffeinated Teacher), you may recall I have moved a LOT in my career. It is practically a miracle that I'll be teaching third grade again this fall because I have never taught the same grade four years consecutively. I'm flexible and willing to move where I'm needed....so it happens to me. Often.
This year I am moving...but not schools or grades. Just classrooms. We are disbanding our Level II resource classroom. These are friends who have higher needs than students who can be served by being mainstreamed and then pulled out for special education services. I say we are "disbanding" the classroom because we are going full inclusion which I have mentioned previously.
Due to this change and my being the third grade inclusion teacher, I requested to move to the current level II room. It's far away from everyone but I don't mind that. I wanted that room because it's huge and because it has windows that actually face outside (they face our Pre-K playground). Natural light is an absolute must for me and I have zero of it in my current room. No one likes to be far away from their team but I knew in order to keep my sanity I need some light in my days, so I requested to change rooms and I'm happy to say my principal agreed.
I hate moving (my constant refrain to my husband when we moved into our house almost fifteen years ago was that I was never moving again -- I have eaten those words a million times because we haven't moved homes but I have moved classrooms over and over). It does force me to be more organized so I think that is a positive thing.
Plus this new room is HUGE. It's actually two small rooms that have an accordion wall that is open to make one large space. I'm in love with the possibilities. Our last official day of school is June 8. I will go in again on June 11 to move all of my things from my old room to my new room (yes I could get custodial to do it, but I'm picky so when I can I move it all myself). At that time I will take some pictures and share my ideas for what I plan to do in that space. I'm so excited about it!
